Why track-out sweeping matters

Construction track-out (mud, gravel, and debris leaving the site) creates safety issues, neighbor complaints, and stormwater risk. Documented street sweeping shows inspectors and cities you are actively controlling the public right-of-way—not waiting for a citation.

1. Trigger events (when to schedule)

• Haul days, grading, or excavation with heavy truck traffic
• After rain when mud is tracked onto public streets
• Demolition, concrete pours, and material deliveries
• Weekly baseline routes on long-duration projects
• Final closeout / punch-list street clean

2. Scope to put in writing

• Which curb lines, gutters, and approaches are included?
• Distance from gate/exit (e.g., first 200–500 ft of public street)
• Same-day vs next-morning windows after haul events
• Who authorizes extras when track-out extends farther than planned?
• What is not included (sidewalks, private lots, storm drain vacuuming)?

3. Documentation inspectors actually use

• GPS / geofence proof on the named streets—not “we were in the area”
• Time stamps (arrived / departed) per visit
• Photos of conditions when blocked or when track-out is extreme
• A report the PM can attach to SWPPP / inspection packages

4. Coordination checklist

• Gate / staging plan so the sweeper can access the exit corridor
• Haul schedule shared 24 hours ahead when possible
• After-hours noise constraints near residential neighborhoods
• Water / dust control expectations for the sweeper unit
• Emergency call-out contact for same-day track-out events

5. Stormwater & drain awareness

• Does sweeping reduce sediment entering curb inlets near the site?
• Is storm drain cleaning / vacuum available as an add-on after major track-out?
• Who owns inlet protection vs street sweeping in the SWPPP?
